Lifetime  Achievement Award

Cheryl Wynter


Cheryl Gillian Michelle Wynter is a prominent Jamaican public servant and community leader who has spent over two decades serving the Jamaican diaspora in the Southern United States. She currently serves as the Community Relations & Information Officer at the Consulate General of Jamaica in Miami. 


Known for her profound dedication to promoting Jamaican culture and our nationals across the Diaspora, Ms. Wynter is widely recognized as a powerhouse within the Caribbean-American community.


Born in the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica.  She passionately describes herself as a "Jamaican at heart," dedicated to uplifting the land of her birth. Ms. Wynter served at the Jamaica Information Service (1999–2011). Serving 12 years as the Overseas Information Attaché for the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) in Miami, Florida. She specialized in public relations, journalism, and creating regional programs to promote Jamaica’s Consulate General of Jamaica from 2011–Present. In her role as Community Relations Officer, she assists the diaspora across the Southeast USA, handles public information, and led major initiatives including executing plans to commemorate Jamaica’s Anniversary of Independence annually;  during COVID provided care and support for estimated 2,500 Jamaican nationals affected by the border closure;  recently, assisted in coordinating relief efforts for Jamaica following devastation of Hurricanes Beryl (2024) and Melissa (2025).  


She is the mastermind and “brainchild” behind the creation of the Jamaican Women of Florida (JWOF), now serving 13 years, and is dedicated to empowering and personal development of Jamaican-American women locally and in Jamaica;  and also providing 4-year scholarships to high school female seniors of Jamaican descent.


Recognized with several awards including Jamaican National Honor (Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service (2021): bestowed by the Government of Jamaica on National Heroes Day for her outstanding contributions to the Consulate General and the Diaspora.  Cheryl Wynter Day -  Proclaimed by the Broward County Commission on September 8, 2011, to honor her regional impact;  Excellence in Community Service Award (2024) by the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes;  Lignum Vitae Vanguard Award (2017) by the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) for her stellar service and achievements within the diaspora;  Marcus Mosiah Garvey Community Service Award (2008) presented by the Rootz Foundation for her cultural media promotions and others.

Andre Bailey

     

 Andre Bailey is the Head Coach of TS Aquatics, a prominent swimming club based in Tamarac, Broward County, Florida, that serves the South Florida region.

Coach Bailey has built TS Aquatics into a top-performing team, frequently producing college-bound swimmers and achieving top-5 finishes at the Florida Gold Coast Senior Swimming Championships.
He has actively worked to address the disparity in drowning rates among children of color in Broward County by prioritizing swim lessons.

As a former competitive breaststroker for Y Speedos under coach Teddy Hayles (back in his home town).
He studied at Florida A&M University. Known for being patient yet disciplined, he emphasizes both academic achievement and athletic performance. He was recognized in 2026 and was invited to appear on Power 106 FM in Jamaica to discuss his career and the importance of swimming scholarships.

Coach Bailey has been instrumental in the development of young swimmers, guiding them from beginner levels to competitive success on the local, national, and international stages. 



 Dr. Tameka Bradley  


 Dr. Tameka Bradley Hobbs is an accomplished historian, author, educator, and advocate whose work has significantly contributed to preserving and advancing African American history and culture. She serves as Regional Manager of Broward County Library’s African American Research Library and Cultural Center, one of the nation’s premier institutions dedicated to preserving Black history and cultural heritage.

A respected scholar and author of Democracy Abroad, Lynching at Home: Racial Violence in Florida, Dr. Hobbs has dedicated her career to educating communities, preserving historical truth, and fostering meaningful dialogue on social justice and cultural awareness. Her leadership has helped bridge academic scholarship and community engagement, empowering individuals through knowledge and understanding.

Through her work in education, research, and public service, Dr. Hobbs continues to inspire future generations while strengthening the cultural fabric of South Florida.

For her outstanding commitment to education, historical preservation, and civic engagement, People Profile proudly recognizes Dr. Tameka Bradley Hobbs with the Community Leadership Award. 

 

Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh


Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh has dedicated three decades of service to the Urban League Movement. Since being named President and CEO in 2006, Dr. Baugh has elevated the profile of the Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) to a premier nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting social and economic advancement in underserved communities. The ULBC now boasts more than $21 million in assets while also governing state appropriated funds for seven other Urban League affiliates. During her tenure, Dr. Baugh not only spearheaded the opening of an iconic $9 million Community Empowerment Center located in the Historic Sistrunk neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, she was instrumental in securing Greater Fort Lauderdale as the destination for the National Urban League Conference, which attracted over 13,000 attendees and generated an estimated economic impact of $10 million for the region.

A champion for economic empowerment, with a depth of expertise in organizational leadership and enhancing equity and inclusion within the business community, she also led the development of the Entrepreneurship Center and Small Business Loan Fund to expand access to capital and opportunities for minority business owners. Notably, the Central County Development Corporation, the ULBC subsidiary which supports economic development efforts of the Entrepreneurship Center and The Small Business Loan Fund, was designated as a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) by the US Treasury Department.

Dr. Baugh's philanthropic leadership, which has always been rooted in service, extends well beyond her work with ULBC. She currently serves on local, statewide, and national boards including Florida Community Loan Fund and the BankUnited Board of Directors. She is also the founding member of the Florida State University Chapter of SISTUHS, an organization established to foster the personal growth and development of African American women which has now expanded to multiple chapters across the East Coast. Recognized for breakthrough leadership by both the nonprofit industry and her peers, Dr. Baugh is a graduate of Leadership Florida Class XXXIV and was inducted into The Jim Moran's Institute of South Florida Fellows and Broward County Women's Hall of Fame.

Dr. Baugh has been recognized as one of Broward County’s 100 Outstanding Women, featured as a South Florida Business Journal Ultimate CEO, and named the 2025 NFL Changemaker by the Miami Dolphins. She has also received distinguished leadership and service honors from nonprofit and civic organizations. Dr. Baugh was honored with the African American Achiever Award in Community Service by JM Family Enterprises and the Making Our Community Stronger Award by Be Strong International.

Despite all her professional and rewarding philanthropic achievements, Dr. Baugh points to her role as proud wife to Paul and loving mother to Allan and Victoria as her greatest accomplishments. Born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Dr. Baugh credits her success to a strong commitment to her faith and family, and the demonstration of strong work ethics by her parents. Dr. Baugh holds a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a bachelor's degree in Business Communications and a Master of Social Work from Florida State University.

Joanna Marie Robinson, born in the vibrant heart of Kingston, Jamaica, on February 18, 1967, is a radiant force in the world of music—an acclaimed bilingual reggae and jazz vocalist, pianist, composer, producer, and entrepreneur whose Jamaican and Venezuelan roots infuse her artistry with rare richness and soul. With over 30 years of dedication to the music industry, Joanna has gracefully woven her talents across production, performance, marketing, and mentorship, becoming a pillar of creative excellence and cultural preservation.
Discovered by reggae legend Clint O’Neil, her journey began with the breakout singles “Single Girl” and “I’m So Thankful,” earning her regional acclaim. Her groundbreaking 1994 album Simply Irresistibleintroduced the first Spanish reggae song aired on Jamaican radio, affirming her as a trailblazer in the genre. Her “DI JUGGLIN” compilation series has become a celebrated platform for emerging and established reggae voices, showcasing her curatorial brilliance and deep love for the craft.
A true matriarch of music, Joanna Marie continues to inspire through her powerful voice, unwavering passion, and commitment to elevating others. Her legacy shines as a timeless melody—celebrating reggae’s roots, honoring its future, and echoing the beauty of cultural fusion with every note she sings.

Ronald Surin


 Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and a U.S. Navy veteran of Desert Storm, Ronald Surin is an accomplished attorney, community leader, and advocate. He holds degrees in Political Science and Law, and has served as Managing Partner at the Law Offices of Champagne and Surin, P.A. since 1999, specializing in immigration, personal injury, and real estate law. A passionate voice for immigrants’ rights and the Haitian-American community, he has held leadership roles in several civic and professional organizations and is active in ministry, legal education, and community service. He is a proud husband of Shebella Poitier and father to Ronalda, Shenelle and Ronald II 

Patrick 'Jackie' Walters

  

Patrick "Jackie" Walters is a legendary Jamaican football coach with over 51 years of excellence in developing young talent and winning titles. Renowned for his work at both schoolboy and club levels, he has secured 22 schoolboy championships—including four Oliver Shields with three different schools—and 10 club-level titles. Most notably, he led Jamaica’s U-17 team to its historic first FIFA World Cup qualification in 1999. Beyond the accolades, Walters is celebrated for his dedication to shaping not just athletes, but strong, disciplined individuals, earning him a revered place in Jamaica’s football history.

Eugene Grey

  

Eugene Grey is an internationally acclaimed Jamaican guitarist, composer, and music educator, celebrated for his genre-blending jazz-reggae style and decades-long contributions to global music. A masterful performer since age 14, he has toured and recorded with icons such as Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, and The Wailers, and has served as musical director and arranger for theater productions and notable artists like Denroy Morgan and Irving Burgie. As co-founder of the nonprofit Rootz of Music, Grey champions free music education for underserved youth and preservation of Jamaican musical heritage. A recipient of several awards and accolades, he continues to perform globally, produce new work through Greyphone Records, and inspire through concerts, workshops, and educational outreach.

Paul 'Virgo' Bent

  

Paul Bent, affectionately known as Virgo, is a soulful Reggae musician whose life is a symphony of rhythm, passion, and purpose. For over 30 years, he has poured heart and soul into his craft, earning a reputation as a true maestro in the world of reggae. Aligned with the roots of Working Class Music, Paul’s sound resonates with authenticity and power, echoing across global platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer. His music is not just heard—it is felt, weaving stories of resilience, love, and liberation that uplift and inspire all who listen.

Everton Hanson

  

Everton “DJ Ever Never” Hanson is a longtime staple of Broward County’s entertainment scene, with nearly 50 years of experience as a dynamic and genre-transcending DJ. Renowned for his mastery of music and deep passion for entertainment, he has built a lasting reputation as both a skilled performer and cultural promoter. His ability to connect with audiences across generations makes him a respected and influential figure in the world of music and event promotion.

Zemroy Lewis

  

Zemroy Lewis, a gifted musician and dynamic business entrepreneur, is best known for his powerful contributions to the acclaimed Code Red Band—one of South Florida’s premier reggae groups. A cornerstone of the local music scene, Zemroy has captivated audiences on countless stages with his talent and passion. Deeply rooted in the cultural heartbeat of reggae, he is also proudly connected to the Reggae Genealogy Festival, a celebration of the rich legacy and vibrant spirit of reggae music and culture.

Simeon Stewart

  

Simeon “Bobo” Stewart. Is a founding member of the 1980’s Sagitarius Band. A highly recognized and successful musician who has been in the industry for almost 50 years. Countless Legendary reggae songs will show his participation as a keyboard player. Backing and touring with great Artists like Dennis Brown, Frankie Paul, Eek a mouse, Admiral Bailey, Michigan and Smiley and most recently he managed the legendary dancehall singer, King Yellowman.

Ricky Wade

  

Ricky Wade is a successful McDonald’s franchisee, operating thirty restaurants across Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie Counties. His strong business acumen is evident in his ability to manage a large franchise network while maintaining deep community engagement. As Vice President of the South Florida Marketing Association and an active board member of several major organizations, Mr. Wade combines strategic leadership with a commitment to social impact, making him a standout figure in both business and civic circles.

Abbey Ajayi

  

 Abbey Ajayi made history as Broward County’s first Constitutional Tax Collector. She was sworn in to establish the office in January 2025 after leading tax services at the County for close to a decade. Before being called to public service, Abbey worked for more than 30 years in the banking and financial service industry, during which time she was a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Junior Achievement and Oakland Park Kiwanis Club, among others. Abbey is a Florida Department of Revenue Certified Collector. She is an active member of the Florida Tax Collector’s Association and has an MBA from Florida Atlantic University.  Abbey envisions the Broward County Tax Collector’s Office as a place where services are delivered with integrity, efficiency and transparency, ensuring a community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed 

Annika Ashton

  

Annika E. Ashton is a Deputy County Attorney at the Broward County Attorney's Office, leading the Finance, Real Property, and Housing practice group. She provides legal counsel on real estate, capital financing, and affordable housing initiatives, advising key County agencies. A former federal law clerk, she is also a recognized legal leader with active involvement in The Florida Bar and past presidency of the Caribbean Bar Association.

Dr.  Kimm Campbell

     

Dr.   Kimm Campbell is the Deputy County Administrator for Broward County,   with over 30 years of public sector experience. She has led key initiatives   in youth justice, child welfare, and mental health, including civil citation   programs and family preservation services. A recognized leader, she authored   statewide community practice standards in North Carolina and has received   honors such as Legacy Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Black Women and the   Urban League’s Margaret Roach Humanitarian Award.

Jeane Russell

     

Jean   Russell is a dynamic entrepreneur, philanthropist, social worker, and   healthcare professional whose life is rooted in service, compassion, and   impact. A Columbia University graduate in Business Management, she has not   only excelled in business but also made waves promoting reggae concerts   across the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean. Her heart, however, beats   strongest in giving back—supporting causes like the American Cancer Society   in honor of her late sister, championing underprivileged youth through Kids   in Distress and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and founding the Breakfast Club at   her alma mater, Hayes Primary and Jr. High School, to combat student hunger   and poverty.

Jean has led   school supply drives, sponsored college students, and donated laptops and   tablets to bridge the digital divide during the pandemic. A fierce advocate   for abused children and a devoted mother, she is celebrated for her   unwavering commitment to creating a brighter, more hopeful future. Honored by   Legacy Magazine and People Profile, Jean Russell stands as a   radiant example of purpose, power, and philanthropy in action.

Cleon James

  

Cleon A. James, a native of Jamaica, is an award-winning film writer, director, and producer, and the founder of Top Notch Vision Films. Since debuting his first film Blood Shed in 2006, he has produced seven thought-provoking films, including Facing Reality, Green Card, and Unbelievable (2024), featuring Spragga Benz. A Cambridge College graduate, Cleon is known for creating impactful, relatable stories that inspire, educate, and entertain—earning honors like Boston’s Most Elite and the Malcolm X Humanitarian Award. His passion for storytelling and innovation continues to shape lives and communities through the power of film.

Monica Cepero

  

Ms. Monica Cepero, a Cuban American born in Puerto Rico, brings over 32 years of experience in state and local government to her role as County Administrator of Broward County—the 17th largest county in the U.S. As Chief Executive Officer, she oversees a $7.8 billion budget, nearly 7,000 employees, and key operations including the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades, and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. Her extensive public service career includes advising Governor Jeb Bush and holding leadership roles in the City of Tallahassee.

Yolanda Cash Jackson

     

Yolanda   Cash Jackson is a seasoned Government Law attorney with a strong   focus on Governmental Relations, particularly in state funding and   appropriations. She is highly regarded for her effective lobbying skills and   strong relationships with key elected officials and policymakers. As a member   of Becker’s Management Committee since 2010, her legal expertise and   leadership have made her a prominent figure in both legal and governmental   circles.

Bishop   John M. R. Gordon,

     

Bishop   John M. R. Gordon, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, is a powerful   prophetic voice and a devoted servant of the Gospel, whose ministry spans   over four decades of transformative preaching, teaching, and spiritual   leadership. Founder of The Fellowship Center—now Revivaltime Tabernacle   Worship Center—and President of John Gordon Ministries Inc., he has dedicated   his life to restoring the broken, reviving hope, and calling this generation   back to biblical truth.

Ordained in   1979 and consecrated as Bishop in 1996, Bishop Gordon’s ministry journey has   been marked by passion, purpose, and power. A gifted conference speaker,   pastor, evangelist, and counselor, he has poured his heart into planting   churches, mentoring leaders, and building faith communities. With degrees in   theology and pastoral administration, and an honorary Doctor of Divinity, he   exemplifies a life of excellence, education, and anointing.

Known for his   uplifting words—“No matter what you have gone through… get up, wipe off   the dirt, and make peace with God. You can make it!”—Bishop Gordon’s   message continues to echo across nations. Alongside his beloved wife, Pastor   Linda, and their three children, he serves with unwavering joy and   commitment, anchored by the power of Luke 4:18-19: 

"The   Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel   to the poor, He has sent me to heal the broken hearted…

and   declare the acceptable year of the Lord".

Samantha Ramnarine

  

Samantha Ramnarine is a proud Guyana native, dynamic entrepreneur, and passionate changemaker who embodies service, strength, and heart. As the founder of C.A.R.S. (Car Accident Referral Services), she has dedicated her career to helping accident victims across Florida access fair legal and medical support. With a fierce work ethic rooted in her upbringing and love for community, she hosts over 100 radio shows weekly to empower and educate clients.

Beyond business, she is a devoted wife of 15 years to Kenneth and proud mom to two vibrant boys, Cody and Cory. Her heart beats for philanthropy—supporting over 20 charities, organizing drives, and serving on multiple boards, including the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick Foundation. With accolades such as the SFBW Legal Innovator Award and multiple community honors, she continues to lead with courage, compassion, and purpose—proving that true success is built on service, love, and staying true to oneself.

Shaniel Hamilton

  

Shaneil Hamilton is a radiant, purpose-driven leader whose journey blends intellect, artistry, and advocacy. A magna cum laude graduate of Florida Atlantic University and a rising star in the legal field, she channels her passion for justice and empowerment into every endeavor. As president and co-founder of YUTE (Young, Undeniably Talented & Extraordinary), Shaneil honors her Jamaican roots by uniting diaspora youth through education and cultural pride. Her evocative poetry and soul-stirring music serve as a powerful testament to resilience, identity, and the enduring beauty of self-expression.

Magali Bernard Cotterell

  

Magali Bernard Cotterell has raised her children in a secure, loving, and supportive home, nurturing both their hearts and minds. She consistently encourages learning and provides the academic support needed to spark a lifelong love for education. Her greatest strength lies in creating an open, empowering environment where her children are free to express themselves and reach their fullest potential.

Claudette Irons  Depass


 Claudette Irons DePass is a devoted community leader whose journey from Jamaica to the U.S. reflects resilience, service, and purpose. With a professional background at American Express, Essence Magazine, and later in Florida with the Panthers and Carrier Corporation, she blends corporate excellence with civic impact. As President of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Sunrise and board member of the Marjorie Forrest Foundation and Lauderhill’s Community Budget Advisory Board, Claudette champions youth empowerment, education, and local progress. Her work, guided by compassion and collaboration, continues to uplift lives and strengthen her South Florida community. 

Ronald & Winnifred Morrison

  

Ronald and Winnifred Morrison have exemplified extraordinary parenting for nearly 60 years. Through their unwavering love, empathy, and wisdom, they have created a nurturing foundation that has empowered generations of children and grandchildren to thrive. Their ability to communicate with compassion, set strong yet loving boundaries, and lead by example continues to inspire all who know them

Donovan Campbell

  

Donovan Campbell, a South Florida native and Broadcast Journalism graduate of Florida International University, joined WSVN in January 2007, just before Super Bowl XLI. His career began at ESPN as a production assistant, followed by on-air sports anchor roles in Texas, including Dallas’ CW33. A U.S. Army veteran and proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Donovan combines journalistic excellence with a deep love for sports, family, and community. In his spare time Donovan enjoys working out, and spending time with his lovely wife and three kids.

Reggie Holt

  

Reginald “Reggie” Holt is a former standout student-athlete from North Miami Senior High who went on to become a record-setting defensive back at the University of Wisconsin, where he helped lead the team to a 1994 Rose Bowl victory. After playing professionally with the Green Bay Packers and London Monarchs, Reggie returned to Florida to coach and mentor youth through the Miami Northwest Express Track Club, co-founded by his father. Now leading the club with his brothers, Reggie continues to shape future champions and remains dedicated to community service, youth development, and athletic excellence alongside his wife, Yvette, and their children.

Coach Keith Davis

  

Coach Keith Davis’ journey began in the serene village of Vermont in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and blossomed into a lifelong love affair with soccer. From playing in England and New York to earning his first professional paycheck in the Italian league, his talent and dedication shone brightly. After settling in Florida with his family, Coach Keith poured his heart into mentoring young athletes through the Lauderhill Lions Soccer Club for over four decades. Soccer has been his compass, his therapy, and his gift to the community—shaping lives, inspiring futures, and nurturing stars like U.S. Olympian Shaq Moore. Through every chapter, Coach Keith remains a beacon of passion, discipline, and unwavering purpose.

Torey Alston

  

Torey Alston became President and CEO of Broward College in February 2025, bringing over 20 years of leadership across government, education, and public service. A Broward County native, Alston’s deep roots and professional experience—from leading billion-dollar agencies to serving as a FAMU trustee and Broward County Commissioner—inform his commitment to academic excellence and community empowerment. He is focused on boosting enrollment, strengthening faculty and staff development, expanding government partnerships, and honoring the rich legacy of Broward College. A dedicated family man and lifelong learner, Alston’s vision is to make Broward College a top destination for higher education.

 Lealani Ferron

  

Lealani Ferron, a distinguished graduate of the College Academy at Broward College, earned both her high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree at just 17, graduating with an impressive 5.24 GPA. A committed leader and advocate, she co-founded Touch of Hope, served in multiple honor societies, and received national recognition as a QuestBridge Finalist and Gates Scholarship Semifinalist. Passionate about neuroscience, Lealani has shadowed physicians, volunteered in neurology, and will attend Florida State University on a full scholarship, majoring in behavioral neuroscience and joining the elite WIMSE program—continuing her path toward becoming a neurosurgeon.

Dean Reid


Dean Reid is a dedicated  student at the University of Florida, pursuing a B.S. in Computer Engineering, whose deep passion for programming and software development has flourished since childhood. His technical curiosity is matched by a generous spirit—Dean actively volunteers in community outreach and youth education programs, sharing both his time and talents. Eager to gain hands-on, team-driven experience, he brings a blend of technical ambition and heartfelt community commitment to every opportunity he embraces.

What is People Profile ?

 People Profile is an exercise interviewing individuals to find their  extraordinary, mission-enhancing stories. These stories represent a  powerful way to communicate and motivate others. It can come from not  only reasoned argument, but argument bolstered by compelling, 1st-person  testimony that advances one’s struggles and interest. People telling  their own stories can move mountains, and all kinds of people can benefit from harnessing the power of true experience stories,  such as that provided by People Profile. We intend to bring people’s  true, personal stories to the world so that we can educate  and enrich the lives of those we serve, community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.
